Chat drops
A collectible appears in the chat after a burst of real conversation; the first member to claim it gets it. How drops work and what a server decides.
Now and then, after a lively stretch of chat, something turns up: a chat drop, a collectible the first member to claim gets for their collection. Drops are a trickle, not an income: they exist so that talking in a server has a small surprise in it, and so that the Relics set can be completed by anyone who's around.
When a drop appears#
A drop appears in a channel after 12 counted messages from 3 or more members within 5 minutes. Messages count the way they do for activity pay: through the Stats module, so spam and bots don't count. A channel gets at most one drop every 30 minutes, and an unclaimed drop is gone after 10 minutes, with the message saying so.
Most drops are a relic (an old coin, a glass bead, a bronze key, a clay tablet, a signet ring, now and then a star map); some are seeds or a Lucky tonic. Claiming one counts for the Quick hands achievement.
Two presses at the same moment can't both win: the claim is one guarded change in the database.
What a server decides#
Drops are on by default in every server. An admin turns them off with d!eco settings drops off (and on again with d!eco settings drops on), or with the Chat drops switch on the dashboard's Economy page (see Settings). When a server keeps economy commands to some economy channels, drops only appear in those channels. With the Stats module off, no bursts are counted, so no drops appear; d!diag says so.
Fair play#
- A busy channel gets at most two drops an hour, each worth about 30 coins of goods on average: at the very most some 60 coins of goods an hour, split among the fastest hands.
- Only real chat counts: the same counters as activity pay, after the tracker's spam and bot filters.
