Appeals
Let members ask for a second look at a ban, timeout or warning on Dexy's appeal page, and review, accept or reject appeals in chat or on the dashboard.
Appeals let people ask your moderators to take another look at a ban, a timeout or a warning. People appeal on Dexy's website: they log in with the same account they use on your server, pick the case they're appealing, and answer your form. Your team reviews it in a channel, in chat or on the dashboard.
Every appeal is about one case. Appeals are part of the Moderation module and are off until you turn them on.
Set up appeals step by step#
- Open the dashboard, pick your server and open Moderation ▸ Appeals.
- Switch to Forms and settings at the top.
- Under Forms, press New form. Tick the kinds of case it's for (bans, timeouts, warnings), leave Start with the suggested questions on, and press Continue.
- Give the form a name and an introduction, then change, add or remove questions. Preview shows it the way members will see it. Press Create form.
- Under Who can appeal, turn on Take appeals. Check What can be appealed: each kind of case shows its form and how long after the case people must wait.
- Under Reviewing, pick a Review channel where new appeals are posted, and the Decider roles that may accept and reject them.
- Under Telling them, choose whether Dexy DMs people when their appeal is accepted or rejected.
- Press Save changes.
- Your Appeal page link is at the top of the page, with a copy button. Dexy also adds it to the messages it sends about bans, timeouts and warnings, as long as a form covers that kind of case.
Questions are only edited on the dashboard; commands manage the forms themselves.
What members see#
Each server has its own page at /appeal/<server ID> on Dexy's website. There, a person:
- Logs in with the platform your server is on: Discord or Fluxer. The page already knows which one.
- Sees their cases in your server that can be appealed, and when the others can be.
- Picks one and answers the form for that kind of case.
- Comes back later to see the decision, and the reason if you gave one.
Cases are stored by Dexy, so banned people can appeal even though they can't see your server. The link also reaches them in the message Dexy sends about the action, as an Appeal this ban (or timeout, or warning) link:

Before the case (Stats)
In the server 329 days before the case 642 messages in the 30 days before it
What happened, in your own words?
I posted invite links to my own server in #general a few times.
Which fits best?
I broke the rules and I'd like a second chance
Why should we lift your ban?
I didn't know advertising wasn't allowed. I've read the rules now and I won't post links without asking a mod first.
Have you read the server's rules?
Yes
What will you do differently?
Ask before sharing anything that isn't from this server.
Only deciders' reactions count · d!appeal 1Today at 9:41 PM
The post shows the case (type, reason, moderator, when, length or points), the member's warning points and other cases, every answer and the status. With Stats on, it also shows how long they'd been in the server and how many messages they'd sent in the 30 days before the case.
To decide:
- A decider reacts with ✅ to accept or ❌ to reject.
- Dexy asks them in the channel for a reason. They have 60 seconds to reply with a reason, a saved reason's number,
skipfor none, orcancelto leave the appeal waiting. With no reply, it's decided without a reason. - The post updates with the decision. Anyone else's reaction is taken off.
Who can see the posts is up to the channel's own permissions. d!appealset mention @Mods pings roles for each new appeal.
In the review channel Dexy needs View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Add Reactions (for ✅ and ❌) and Manage Messages (to take off reactions that don't count). d!diag says if any is missing.
On the dashboard#
- Open Moderation ▸ Appeals. Appeals are listed newest first; filter by status or kind of case, or search by name, user ID or number.
- Click an appeal to open it. You see the case, the member's record, what Stats knew about them before the case, and every answer.
- Add Notes for moderators if you like. The member never sees them.
- Press Accept or Reject, pick a saved reason or write one, and confirm.

Decider roles (d!appealset deciders @Senior Mods) | read, add notes, accept and reject |
Reviewer roles (d!appealset reviewers @Helpers) | read and add notes |
Nobody can decide their own appeal. Reviewers and deciders without the moderation permission get the Appeals page on the dashboard, not the rest of Moderation.

Forms#
A form is what people fill in: a name, an introduction (up to 1,000 characters) and up to 15 questions.
- Each kind of case (bans, timeouts, warnings) is covered by at most one form. A kind without a form can't be appealed. Temporary bans count as bans.
- One form can cover several kinds, or each kind can have its own. A server can have up to 5 forms.
- Question types are Short text, Long text, Yes or no and Single choice (2 to 10 options). Questions can be required or optional, with a help line under them.
Commands manage the forms themselves; the questions are edited on the dashboard.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
d!appealset form | lists the forms, numbered |
d!appealset form create <kinds> [name] | makes a form with the suggested questions |
d!appealset form kinds <form> <kinds> | changes which kinds a form is for |
d!appealset form rename <form> <name> | renames it (people see the name) |
d!appealset form template <form> | replaces its questions with the suggested ones |
d!appealset form delete <form> | deletes it after you confirm |
A form is its number in the list or its name in quotes. Giving a form a kind that another form has is refused unless you add --move, which takes the kind from the other form:
d!appealset form kinds 2 warn --move
d!appealset form kinds 2 warn --move

Who can appeal, and when#
A case can be appealed while:
- appeals are on and the Moderation module is on,
- a form covers its kind,
- it's still in force (an active ban or temporary ban, a running timeout, a warning that hasn't expired or been revoked),
- the person isn't blocked from appealing,
- and the timing rules below allow it.
| Setting | Default | Command |
|---|---|---|
| Wait after a case, per kind | 0 hours (straight away), up to 8,760 | d!appealset wait ban 72 |
| Time between two appeals by the same person | 24 hours, 0 to 720 | d!appealset cooldown 24 |
| One appeal per case | on | d!appealset onepercase off |
With One appeal per case on, a decided case can't be appealed again. Turned off, a rejected case can be appealed again once the cooldown has passed; an accepted one never needs to be. A case can only have one appeal waiting at a time, and one person can send at most 5 appeals an hour.
Blocking someone#
Open their appeal on the dashboard and press Block from appealing, or type d!appeal block 123456789012345678 spamming appeals. The appeal page tells them they can't appeal in your server; appeals they already sent stay. d!appeal unblock 123456789012345678 lets them appeal again. The dashboard lists everyone blocked under Blocked from appealing in Forms and settings.
Decisions#
- Accepting lifts the case: Dexy unbans, ends the timeout or revokes the warning, as a new case that links back to the appeal. If the case has already ended or was deleted, there's nothing to lift and the appeal is simply accepted.
- Rejecting keeps the case as it is.
Either way, the review post and the case's mod log post are updated, and the person can see the decision on the appeal page. Dexy also messages them, unless you turn that off: whether it was accepted and what that means (unbanned, timeout lifted, warning no longer counts), your reason in a quote, a link to join again for an accepted ban appeal (when you set an invite), a link to their appeal, and the appeal and case numbers. It's in the same style as your other DMs to members: a few lines by default, or detailed, or an embed (see How messages look).
d!appealset dm reject off
d!appealset dm reject off
DMs only arrive when Dexy shares a server with the person, which banned members often don't; the appeal page always shows the decision.
Saved reasons#
Save up to 10 reasons for rejecting (up to 300 characters each) so deciders can pick one by its number:
d!appealset reasons add Too soon after the ban
d!appealset reasons
d!appealset reasons remove 2
d!appealset reasons add Too soon after the ban
d!appealset reasons
d!appealset reasons remove 2
On the dashboard they're under Reviewing ▸ Saved reject reasons, and one click away in an appeal.
An invite for unbanned members#
d!appealset invite https://discord.gg/abc123 sends an invite with accepted ban appeals, so the person can join again. d!appealset invite off stops it.
d!appealset invite https://fluxer.gg/abc123 sends an invite with accepted ban appeals, so the person can join again. d!appealset invite off stops it.
On the dashboard: Telling them ▸ Invite for accepted ban appeals.
Closing appeals nobody answered#
d!appealset autoclose 14 rejects appeals nobody decided after 14 days (1 to 90), and says Dexy closed it. d!appealset autoclose off lets them wait until someone decides; that's the default.
What's kept#
The answers are what the person chose to send. They're kept while the appeal is open and removed 90 days after the decision. Who appealed, which case and the outcome stay with the case. If someone deletes their data with Dexy, their appeals are removed. See Privacy and data.
Turning appeals off#
d!appealset off (or the Take appeals switch) closes the appeal page for your server ("This server isn't taking appeals right now"). Appeals already sent can still be decided. Turning the Moderation module off closes appeals too.
Troubleshooting#
- The page says the server isn't taking appeals. Appeals are off, or the Moderation module is off. Check with
d!appealset. - A case isn't listed, or can't be appealed yet. It may have ended, its kind may have no form, or it's still in its wait or the person's cooldown. The page says when it can be appealed.
- New appeals don't show up in a channel. Pick one with
d!appealset channel #appealsand make sure Dexy can post there (d!diagchecks). Without a channel, appeals are only on the dashboard and ind!appeals. - My reaction disappeared. Only deciders' reactions count. Ask an admin to add your role with
d!appealset deciders. - The person didn't get a DM. They probably don't share a server with Dexy any more. The decision is on the appeal page.
See all the d!appeal, d!appeals and d!appealset commands in the moderation command reference.
